Radio Electronics guru Ian Poole has two of perhaps the most definative websites about this type of technology:

The principal hobby radio electronics magazine in the UK is Practical Wireless, which is published monthly. Its aimed principally at Amateur Radio enthusiasts. Another monthly, published by the same company, is Radio User, a magazine focussing on the interests of 'short wave radio listeners'.

Transmission licences are handled by the Radio Society of Great Britain who also administer and manage licencing examination in the UK.
