Radio Electronics - an introductionRadio electronics is a distinct area of electronic engineering which relates to the design and creation of devices associated with the transmission and receipt of radio waves. Radio electronics has widespread applications in both industrial and domestic technology and appliances. Radio electronics is of interest to electronic engineers, teachers, academics and amateur radio enthusiasts. Amateur radio enthusiasts have played an important part in the developmnet of radio electronics through their use and experimentation with radio electronics components and their development of devices using radio technology. Radio electronics takes into account the specific characteristics of the receipt and transmission of radio signals which can often be subject to unpredicatble environmental and weather related phenomena. Although radio engineering is just one discipline within the wider field of electronic engineering, radio electronics is a quite distinct and specialised field. Clearly, many of the principles that apply in radio electronics also apply to other areas of electronic engineering. However, radio electronics is quite distinct. Perhaps the two most important reasons why Radio electronics a distinct and specialised area of electronic engineering are:- there is a wide range of radio specific electronic components, that don't tend to get used in the construction of other types of electronic devices; a vital part of the design and construction of viable radio circuitry is the importance given to the proximity of electronic components to one another in the final design. This means that an in depth knowledge of radio electronics plays a critical role in almost every aspect of radio engineering. Radio electronics is becoming increasingly relevant to other areas of electronics as radio technolgy converges with areas such as wireless computer networking and mobile communications technology. |
